Talent to Lead - Call for Applications coming soon!
CHRC is putting final touches on Talent to Lead (T2L), a major initiative to help mid-career managers to advance their careers to the next level of leadership in the sector.
The Steering Committee that is guiding the project, including some of Canada’s most distinguished and experienced cultural leaders, met in late June to approve the process and timeline.
Watch for our Call for Applications in late July 2016. This call for applications will be available in English only. The deadline to apply is September 30th, 2016.
Through a 2-step process 18 participants will be chosen to be part of the first cohort. Step #1 includes submitting a resumé and completing an online survey about mentorship aspirations; step #2, for short-listed applicants, includes submitting a letter of interest, a letter of support from their employer, and references.
Through a 10-month program, cultural managers will participate in on-line learning webinars, gain access to resources and networks, and be matched for one-on- one mentorship sessions with a selected executive leader.
A second cohort will follow fast on the heels of the first group, with a call for applications in January 2017. At this time, the on-line webinar sessions and mentors will be available in both English and French.
T2L is responding to the need for succession planning in the sector that was identified in CHRC's Cultural HR Study 2010: the largest HR study ever undertaken on the cultural sector in Canada conducted by the Conference Board of Canada. The need was underscored in recent comments by Janice Price, CEO of the Banff Centre when she "spoke of an absence of programs to build skills – and confidence – for Canadian mid- to senior-level cultural leaders so they can 'step up and take on these big jobs across the country.'" Banff is establishing a new leadership training for executive-level arts and cultural administrators (Globe and Mail, June 23, 2016)
