Student Work Placement program

It has been a mighty year for internships under this program! We are pleased to announce that the application period for April 2023 to March 2024 internships will begin shortly.

The program offers wage subsidies up to 50% with a maximum of $5,000 (higher awards are available for priority group students) For more information, including eligibility criteria, please visit our website, and take the time to view our FAQ page.

The three key evaluation criteria are:

  • The employer must be an establishment in the cultural sector (profit or non-profit).
  • The student must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution, must be eligible to work in Canada, legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the laws and regulations of the province or territory in which they are employed, and the student must either be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person granted refugee protection under the law.
  • The job description should be related to the student's field of study and thus enable the student to apply his/her knowledge and/or allow the student to develop skills for the labour market.

Learn more about the steps to receive the subsidy here!

Ready to apply? View our application form here which will be open for applications on March 27th at 9:30am EST.

Funding and other news

A message from the Ottawa Arts Initiative…

Dear Members of the Ottawa Arts Council and Arts Network Ottawa, from our joint account, the Ottawa Arts Initiative, we would like to bring a pressing matter to your attention.

The Ottawa Arts Initiative has become aware of planned cuts to the Ontario Arts Council budget (up to 15% of total budget; down from $60 to $55 million), to be announced before the end of March.

We are asking for stable and predictable funding for the OAC, and we hope you will join us in our advocacy efforts to stop the cuts and provide stable funding.

Hundreds of local organizations and individuals receive and depend on the funding from the OAC, and cuts will be damaging to our local arts community, will deprive audiences of great cultural experiences, suppress important ideas and voices and hurt our local economy.

Time is of the essence! As the budget will be announced before the end of March, please take the time to write a letter or to reach out to your MPP now advocating against this cut. We have provided a letter template for you as well as a link to easily find the contact information for your districts MPP.

Thank you for your help in addressing this devastating matter.
